| Hannah! |
[Apr. 13th, 2009|09:21 pm] |
Finally... my Hannah review!

AWESOME!
Many of my friends find it hard to believe that I am a Miley fan. Some of them just figure I'm being ironic. Irony is so passe. The big trouble with liking something because it's Ironic, is that you face the danger of really ending up liking it and then not being able to really know if you are being ironic or not.
Why not just like what you like?
So in front of the world (at least the few people who will read this) I stand proud and admit that I enjoyed the Hannah Montana Movie!
Jean and I saw the film on opening night and it was an experience much like the first time I saw "Rocky Horror." The audience sang along with all the songs! The audience applauded at the end of "live" musical numbers! They danced in their seats with the main dance number "the Hoedown Throwdown!" They reacted audibly to so much of the on-screen action. The movie reached beyond the screen and included the audience! Let the critics say what they will about the movie! They obviously didn't see it in an auditorium full of 9-17 year-olds to whom Hannah and her friends are their friends.
To further the "Rocky Horror" feel, Barry Bostwick was in the movie and he did play an asshole named Mr. BRADley!
Now for those who will not see it in the ideal surroundings of a sea of tweens...
If you like the show - you will like the movie! The character of Miley Stewart is much more likable in the movie than she has been recently in the series. In the series, she has been getting more and more fashionable and more and more "made-up" and full of "attitude." This Miley shows us a fresher face. Miley's brother Jackson, is primarily in the movie to perform bits of slapstick with varying degrees of success (somehow getting attacked by an alligator is supposed to be funny in the movie.) Unfortunately, Oliver is hardly seen in the movie. The audience enjoyed Rascal Flatts and went crazy over Taylor Swift.
If you do not know the show, you are caught up pretty quickly in he plot and although you may find the movie an interesting and family-safe diversion, it is hard for me to judge what you will think without the already emotional interest in the characters.
True there was nothing totally unexpected in the movie. The plot twists were fairly predictable. The holes in the plot are primarily of the same nature of the holes that you've already accepted in he series (ie: if she is trying to keep her identity secret, why is her big song about having a secret identity.) But I have to commend the people at Disney who could have put out anything with Hannah Montana in it and made tons of money, on actually putting out a nice quality product chock-full of treats for fans of the show!
I WILL see this movie again. It had me cheering, crying and singing along with the movie (and everyone else in the theatre.)
and... Hannah fights Tyra Banks!

Today I'm seeing the Hannah Montana movie!
We already got our tickets...
I wanted to make a "Save Crowley Meadows" T-Shirt and learn the "Hoedown Throwdown" to dance during the movie, but alas - sorry Miley, I didn't learn it yet.
Rocky Horror tomorrow - I'm slightly more ready for that.
